Kinderfest a popular Holstein celebration
HOLSTEIN - The city of Holstein hosted its annual Kinderfest celebration last weekend. The town celebration is well over 100 years old, and has always aimed to provide a family fun event for citizens and friends of the city of Holstein.The celebration this year certainly provided just that.
The days leading up to Kinderfest brought enjoyment to many. The celebration kicked off on Sunday, June 12 with a bike ride beginning at the Holstein city park. An outdoor movie sponsored by the Good Samaritan Society was shown on Wednesday, and free snacks were given to all who were in attendance.
The Kinderfest run/walk was Thursday afternoon. The participants spent the beautiful afternoon weaving in, out, and around the streets of Holstein to complete either five or, for the exceptionally ambitious, 10 kilometers.
Vollmar Motors presented their finest vehicles on Friday. The car show was accompanied by evening specials at many downtown restaurants, a hamburger feed hosted by the firemen, and a performance by Chad Elliot, an award-winning guitarist/song writer.
Kinderfest Day on Saturday began with the parade a bit after noon. Lunch was served at the park by the Holstein Kiwanis. For the rest of the afternoon, the park was dominated by various festivities. Free tractor train rides were given by the Hintz family, blow-up toys were available, Nacerima sponsored a cake walk, and there was a free photo booth, sponsored by McGuire Auction and Community Bank.
Around every turn there were games such as plinko, ring toss, balloon darts, the ring ride, and many more. Children could make their own ropes or have their faces painted. There was even a petting zoo with many cute creatures for the children and, in many cases, the parents to enjoy.
The Kinderfest Ambassadors hosted a game as well. The Ambassadors this year were Nicole Boyle, Conor (Annie) McAreavy, and Kristina Vollmar.
Sheltered Reality, a drum line with an inspiring message, gave a performance. The Holstein German Band performed as well.
Other activities included a bike drawing sponsored by Heritage Bank and United Bank of Iowa, the Nacerima quilt raffle, and a pedal pull also sponsored by Heritage Bank.
The Kinderfest celebration concluded with the Father's Day softball tournament and the Belgian Waffle feed both on Sunday.

Games and events include a peanut scramble, sack races, balloon toss, and running races for kids of all ages. Grilled hotdogs, sodas, water, and soft pretzels will be available. All of the day's food and activities are free. Volunteers are still needed
Members of the Twentynine Palms High School Interact Club will be there with a ring toss game and to tell community members about activities in the coming year, including their annual November Food Drive which provides the makings of Thanksgiving meals
