Eagles Camp: Training for the Hysteria
Up when I still needed a light on in the bedroom, on the road by 6 a.m., I was off to Bethlehem last week to peek at the Eagles.
Roaming through my head were some of my favorite lyrics from the Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar : What’s the buzz? Tell me what’s-a-happening.
Just maybe if I went to a session of Eagles training camp, it will make sense, I thought. Why do men and boys–and some women who now can add to their closets team jerseys that better fit their bodies–get so psyched about professional football? Why are they on top of the world with expectation and hope and predictions on Sunday mornings and so punked by nightfall?
It’s like a middle-school crush. Will he notice me today? Will he talk to me tomorrow? Will the team bomb by the second quarter? Will they rally?
More than the Delaware Valley’s love-hate affair with the Phillies, the Eagles dominate six months of conversation. By Wednesday during the season, fans are planning where to watch the game. They compare food spreads in local taverns as much as point spreads.
Knowledge is power, so I was determined to learn something essential, like, what exactly does the cornerback do. The Eagles have a new one this year, I heard on the news, so it might be good to look at Nnamdi Asomugha. Maybe I’d meet him face-to-face and ask how to pronounce his name. Both of them.
The night before the road trip, I hunkered down (now that’s a good huddle term) with a friend to review the roster. Another new team member was causing a stir on the sports talk shows. T.O. Harris, commentators and callers kept saying. I tried to look him up. I couldn’t find a T.O. Harris on the list. A minute later, there he was: Ryan Harris. T.O. is his position, offensive tackle. Why didn’t they say that? Why do they talk in code?
So I went. As promised, both parking and entry to the camp are free. Online directions were adequate for the drive that’s about 20 minutes from the Quakertown exit of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. It was easy to miss the entrance to the campus of Lehigh University and there are no signs indicating Eagles are nesting there.
So we drove through the campus once and on the second time around followed the green arrows. Still no reference to the team but where else could they be pointing? We drove past some fraternity houses, up and down hills and saw very few people on the shaded lawns.
Lyrics To Tell Me - News
Roaming through my head were some of my favorite lyrics from the Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar: What's the buzz? Tell me what's-a-happening. Just maybe if I went to a session of Eagles training camp, it will make sense, I thought.

"I've had lawyer friends tell me I'd make a good lawyer though… Look out!" Round up! Round up! Come and enter the mind of a zany, musical maestro. Come ponder at his inner most thoughts and desires! Come gasp at his witty, eccentric tales!
Tell me,” you demanded ever so softly, “who I have to be to get some reciprocity.” You took those simple sentences to which so many can relate and added the perfect melody—music completely in sync with the lyrics' emotion. It's still so amazing to me
For a while now, people have been trying to tell me to take advantage of some of the 'free stuff' here on Long Island during the summer. It seems that I cannot coordinate my schedule or my paydays to do them; (yes- even the free stuff
For me, it was just about being honest with the songwriting and writing songs from my own personality. Some of the stuff was tongue-in-cheek and I have a dry sense of humor that I put into the lyrics and I think that was what the fans were attracted to

Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band from Milan formed in 1994. Formerly known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal, the band was inspired by the combination of gothic imagery and music, and the members have been known, musically, for composing midtempo songs consisting of prominent guitar lines and contrasting dual female/male vocal harmonies to help create a melodic, detached sound. Much of the band's recent material, however, sees a heavier and more down-tuned style, featuring a more distinct bass line and a higher mixing of the guitars within the songs. The band's 2006 release, Karmacode, peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200. Their latest release, Shallow Life, debuted at number 16 on the Billboard charts. The album marks the band diverging their sound from gothic metal to straight-forward alternative metal. As of August 2010, Lacuna Coil has sold nearly 2 million records.
