Under water themed classroom opened at St Albans school
A NEW classroom designed and created by pupils was officially opened at a St Albans school yesterday.
Parents turned out yesterday as the doors to Cunningham Hill Junior School’s "nuture room" were opened.
The underwater-themed room will be used by a specific group of children who are identified as having emotional or social difficulties, as well as other with special learning needs.
Year five teacher Kat Shaw said the children enjoyed showing off their creative flair.
Elliot Gibbons, ten, said: “It was really fun because we were able to do sketches first, then we painted it.”
As well as fish, a diver and coral painted on the room’s walls, every student at the Cell Barnes Lane school designed a fish which has been cut out and hung from the ceiling.
Cerys Dawson, nine, added: “I really like the room, everyone has been able to get involved so nobody has felt left out.”
The room also has a fish tank and large, comfortable cushions for pupils to sit on the floor.
Headteacher Justine Elbourne-Cload said “This is a fantastic addition to our school which has caused great excitement amongst the pupils.
“It will enable many vulnerable children to work and play in a stimulating and welcoming space, away from the rest of the school.
