Franklin Tennessee Attractions Help County Make Top Ten List
One of the most popular destinations in Williamson County is Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. Over the past year, Williamson County’s total hotel revenue and room purchases has risen by almost 20 percent respectively. This data was gathered and reported by Smith Travel Research. It was furnished to the Williamson County Convention & Visitors Bureau recently.
The Chairman of this Williamson County bureau, Julian Bibb, exclaimed that, “Tourism is a clean and powerful economic engine for Williamson County. The real benefit of tourism is how much our citizens save each year in state and local taxes.” According to the County’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the rise in county tourism has generated nearly $50 million in income for this industry’s workers and has produced about 2,400 more jobs.
Williamson County has, prior to 2009, always been behind other Tennessee counties, namely Blount, Sullivan, Hamilton, Sevier Knox, Shelby, and Davidson. In 2009 however they gained the seventh position among 95 counties and overtook Blount by a small margin. The 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism indicated that the average tourism-related amount spent by visitors to the county per day was $724,697. A significant portion of the total income is being reinvested by the county to further develop this trend. Improvement in the quality of available leisure and business destination choices stated the Executive Director of the county’s Convention & Visitors Bureau, Mark Shore, will in due course lead to more revenue. This may then be invested in improving public safety, schools, and other county services.
