Adoption Reunion in Versailles
“Every year we see more and more of these miracles,” said A Helping Hand Adoption Agency spokesman Victor Bondarenko.
Whether it be a first milestone in the child’s life dozens of adoption families gathered at Boyd Park in Versailles Saturday.
“To see a child who’s been in the orphanage for a year, 2 years, sometimes 6 or 7 years and this child is adopted by a family and the children transform miraculously,” said Bondarenko.
Adoption families are happy to be there every step of the way.
“And you can see some of these children that I’ve met and I remember the way they looked before and I see them now and its like a totally different child,” said Bondarenko.
“Adoption can be a very lengthy process and challenging process but we can help them with that,” said Bondarenko.
“I wanted to adopt since when I was in college,” said mother Shan Barlow,” I found a helping hand online and “They had a list of children online that were hard to place and she was on that list but i kept going back to her picture.” Barlow says they met other families when they traveled to China to adopt through the Helping Hand Agency.
“You get to be really close with these families because you've got this in common,” said Barlow, “The joy you feel at being able to help that child and make a difference in their life.”
“Adoption gives them family something that you can’t buy or borrow even if they are in the best orphanages with the most loving staff they are still orphans even if they stay in foster care they still don't have a permanent family so what they get when they come here is they get a family,” said Bondarenko.
