Western fashion lore seminar planned in Cody

CODY, Wyo. — Space is still available at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center for Laurel Wilson's seminar, "Western Dressed," June 6-10.

The forum investigates Western dress and cowboy culture through lectures, tours and artifact study, and explores the diverse influences that collectively created the western style that is familiar today.

Along with Jill Gleich, Wilson is the guest curator for "Dressed Just Right: An Evolution of Western Style from Function to Flamboyance," a collection of bling, fringe, embroidery, tucks, and ruffles on everything from hats, shirts, skirts, and vests to belts, pants, chaps, and boots-and larger than life-size photographs of westerners dressed for work, play and everything in between.

An opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday officially kicks off the weeklong seminar as well as the exhibition, now on view in the Center's special exhibitions area.
