I always thought the race would be good as a department and it is. A week ago today, the Indianapolis 500 veteran and multi-time USAC Midget Champion Mel Kenyon gave his testimony to close the school vacation Bible Faith Baptist Church where I live and attend Lafayette.

One of my racing heroes shared he accepted Christ after a racing accident in 1965 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania that left him hospitalized for three months.

"It was supposed to be nine months, but God worked on me," he said."In seven months I was back in a race car. Eight months, I was back in Indy."

Kenyon relayed how doctors kept her fingers and the thumb intact crushed his left hand burned instead of installing a hook as Kenyon asked.

"I think God wanted this way I can still wave to you," he said to laughter as he waved to the crowd.

He joked that God does not care about championships.

"I won a championship race before the Lord was in my life. I won after 13. "

After 58 years of racing and 384 wins, he has an excellent summary.

"Just as my accident, life goes on, the world continues.You should be prepared for sudden stops. "

Some I talked to said most runners are competing SN Thursday by the weekend.I thought Don O'Neal could drive a car back out of the carrier after turning in qualifying, but he did not and left.
