QB expert Jon Gruden extols virtues of Pryor
The last two weeks have had a definite Ohio flavor for Jon Gruden.
The former Super Bowl-winning coach and ESPN "Monday Night Football" analyst was in the area last week and visited his brother, Jay, the Bengals new offensive coordinator.
In addition to playing in University of Dayton golf tournament, Gruden also spent a day at Kings Island.

The Buckeye theme continues tonight as Gruden's "QB Camp - Terrelle Pryor" airs at 9 p.m. on ESPN. The one-hour show was filmed on June 20 at Gruden's office in Tampa and at the University of South Florida's practice facility.
Gruden found out that Pryor had declared for the supplemental draft while on a fishing trip with one of his sons. Once Pryor selected Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, ESPN producer Jay Rothman called Rosenhaus and the program was in motion.
"It took 10-12 days for me to study his film," Gruden said. "Then we cut up his entire season and career and went through it for the program."
Gruden met Pryor when he was an analyst for the 2010 Rose Bowl on ESPN radio when Ohio State defeated Oregon. In April, Gruden was the keynote speaker at Ohio State coaches clinic and he talked with Pryor again during spring practices.
Gruden says there is a lot to like about Pryor, including his physical tools (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) and that he is fast. But Gruden says there is one other important factor no one can dispute.
"He was 31-4 (in college)," Gruden said. "He played good football in the big arena and played well in big games like the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. He was also undefeated against Michigan."
Pryor has been compared to Auburn's Cam Newton, who was the top pick in this year's draft. But Pryor might have an advantage because Ohio State ran a more conventional offense than the spread that Newton played in his one season at Auburn.
"He's used to lining up underneath center and he played in plenty of two-back and one-back sets," Gruden said. "He impressed me with his football attributes and dealing with checks and audibles at the line of scrimmage. He was asked to do a lot."
Gruden admits that Pryor still needs work on fundamentals.
"He's just like all the other quarterbacks and has to work on it. I know he has worked hard on his delivery and he has been conscious of it," Gruden said. "Many wonder about arm strength but he had a tremendous throw (in 2009) in a two-minute drill against Iowa to DeVier Posey that he dropped. He just has to press on and improve his accuracy and fundamentals. That will come in time.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — During the week of June 6-10 eight members of the Zane Trace FFA chapter attended summer camp at FFA Camp Muskingum near Carrollton, Ohio. The theme for this year’s camp was Unlock the Mystery and campers were encouraged to solve a fictional murder mystery.
During the camp FFA members participated in leadership sessions with past Ohio FFA state officers, competed in sports tournaments, debated the benefits and drawbacks of organic farming and learned conservation practices related to wildlife, water quality and forestry.
Members also raised money for Children’s Hospital through the annual camp Pie In the Eye competition.
The banquet was held in the Zane Trace Cafetorium June 11 and included a group of more than 200 guests. FFA members helped the caterer serve meals and clean up.
During the event, members had the opportunity to practice etiquette and learn about the history of the Kingston-Union School.
